The GlenAllachie Distillery
The GlenAllachie Distillery is one of Scotland's few independently owned and managed distilleries, helmed by award winning industry veteran, Billy Walker, who has almost 50 years of experience in the whisky industry.
Situated near the base of Ben Rinnes in Speyside, the distillery has been producing whisky since 1968, originally operating 2 stills before quickly increasing to 4. In 1985 the distillery was closed before being reopened by Campbell Distillers and resuming production in 1989, operating fully uninterrupted production for 29 years thereafter.
In 2017, the distillery was acquired by Billy Walker, Trisha Savage & Graham Stevenson and within just 2 years they won ‘Scottish Whisky Distillery of the Year 2019’ at the inaugural Scottish Whisky Awards. The GlenAllachie team has gone on to win numerous awards with Billy Walker also inducted into Whisky Magazine’s prestigious Hall of Fame, which is a permanent tribute to individuals who have made a lasting contribution to the world of whisky.
The Wine Cask Series
The inaugural collection of The GlenAllachie's Wine Cask series was launched in April 2021 and includes the 11 Year Old GrattaMacco Cask Finish, the 12 Year Old Sauternes Cask Finish & the 13 Year Old Rioja Cask Finish.
Each expression in the Wine Cask series is expertly matured in American Oak Ex-Bourbon Barrels before a further 2 year maturation in European Wine Barriques meticulously sourced by their Master Distiller, Billy Walker.
The 11 Year Old GrattaMacco maintains notes of toffee, stone fruits and orange peel from a carefully selected Super Tuscan Barriques, sourced from the GrattaMacco winery in the beautiful Bolgheri area of Tuscany in Italy.
The 12 Year Old Sauternes gets its elegant stone fruit, zesty flavours from Sauternes Barriques made from French Oak, originating from the Bordeaux region of South West France.
The 13 Year Old Rioja obtains its nutty and honeyed character from carefully sourced Rioja Barriques of Spanish Oak, hailing from Spain’s most renowned wine region.
A lovely selection of drams to savour and enjoy over the summer months.
The GlenAllachie 12 Year Old Whisky
At the heart of their core expressions, The GlenAllachie 12 Year Old was matured in First Fill Bourbon, Sherry Cask and Virgin Oak. The result is a huge flavour profile of honey, marzipan and bananas, with lashings of butterscotch, raisins and a delicate hint of mocha.
The GlenAllachie 15 Year Old Whisky
Described by Billy Walker as the 'Jewel in their Crown', The GlenAllachie 15 Year Old is a single malt matured in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Puncheons and Hogsheads. It is a smooth and rich whisky with a rainbow of sweet spices, raisins and butterscotch with banana, orange peel and dark chocolate notes.
The GlenAllachie MacNair's Lum Reek 12 Year Old
Last, but by no means least is The GlenAllachie's 12 Year Old MacNair's Lum Reek. Double Gold winner at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2021, this is a must try for any whisky fan!
MacNair's Lum Reek 12 YO is a heavily peated blended malt Scotch Whisky which marries together peated Islay & Speyside malts with rich, older GlenAllachie. Lashings of rich peat reek with mature heather notes, bog myrtle, butterscotch, toffee and sweet spices will delight those who love a smoky whisky. Perfect for those nights in front of your campfire!
