Monday, May 13th is World Cocktail Day, and you know we’ll be celebrating with a glass or two! Whether you're a seasoned cocktail enthusiast or just beginning your mixology journey, there's something uniquely satisfying about a well-crafted concoction.
Of course, May is also Whisky Month and we’re having some fun on our socials with #GinADayMay courtesy of Sarah Miller @GinADingDing, so we simply had to share some of our favourite cocktails featuring our two favourite spirits.
Gin Delights
Gin, with its juniper-infused character, forms the base of many classic cocktails. You may be familiar with the timeless Gin & Tonic (yes, it counts as a cocktail!) but why not push the boat out and try something a little more adventurous?
For a touch of sophistication, try Bond’s favourite: the Martini. Whether you take it shaken or stirred, this cocktail is a classic blend of gin (we recommend Hills & Harbour Gin) with dry vermouth and is garnished with an olive or a twist of lemon. Its simplicity belies the depth of flavour it delivers.
Looking for a floral note for the spring? Try an Elderflower Gin Fizz. Mix gin (we recommend the Garden Shed Gin) with elderflower liqueur, lemon juice, and a splash of soda water for a light, effervescent treat that's perfect for springtime sipping!
Whisky Wonders
Whisky, the golden water of life is usually enjoyed neat, over ice or with a dash of water, but it also lends itself beautifully to a range of cocktails.
If you’re new to whisky cocktails, start with the classic Whisky Sour - a harmonious blend of whisky (we recommend Ardgowan Clydebuilt Sailmaker Blended Scotch Whisky), fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup, garnished with a cherry or lemon twist.
For those craving a more exotic taste, try a Rob Roy. This whisky-based cousin of the Manhattan combines Scotch whisky (we recommend the Campbeltown Loch Blended Malt Scotch Whisky), sweet vermouth, and a dash of bitters, for a rich, smooth concoction served up in a chilled glass.
If you prefer a zestier option, try the Penicillin. This modern classic features Scotch whisky (we recommend Wolfie's Whisky from Rod Stewart and Loch Lomond Distilleries), honey-ginger syrup, fresh lemon juice, and a dash of smoky Islay whisky (we recommend Laphroaig 10 Year Old) for an intriguing yet satisfying drink.
Of course, if you fancy taking a shortcut, we have a range of delicious Ready to Drink cocktails in-store and online! Whether you opt to lose your halo with Angels Dare or take a trip to the Isle of Bute with Braw Liquor Club, there’s something to suit everyone.
This May 13th, join us in raising a glass to World Cocktail Day and the joy of mixology. Cheers!
