Ardgowan "Clydebuilt Shipwright" 48% Blended Scotch Whisky 70cl
SILVER WINNER AT IWSC 2022 (93 points) & GLOBAL SCOTCH WHISKY MASTERS MASTER 2022
Some of the greatest ships in the world were built on the Clyde, and the phrase ‘Clydebuilt’ came to capture this tradition of building with precision, integrity and pride. Clydebuilt Whisky is a limited edition collection of meticulously crafted whiskies inspired by this tradition.
Clydebuilt Shipwright is the second bottling in this award-winning series. Ardgowan’s master whisky maker, Max McFarlane, says: “Take a dram of Shipwright, breathe in the waves of marzipan, Ceylon tea, dried spices and hints of tobacco - roll the dram to the front of mouth and on the tip of the tongue you’ll find orange peel, rich dark notes of black cherries, and treacle. Finally, Shipwright finishes gently, dry at first, then gliding into lingering spicy notes.”
Shipwright is a blend of four distinctive single malt whiskies from Highland and Speyside distilleries, specially created by Master Whisky Maker Max McFarlane. Matured in first-fill Oloroso Sherry casks.
No added colour and non chill-filtered.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Warm aromas come in waves, bringing to mind the precious cargoes of the East, with scents of marzipan, leather, Ceylon tea, dried spices, tobacco and sandalwood.
Palate: This journey continues as bright complexities of orange peel and rich dark notes of black cherries and treacle come to the fore.
Finish: Shipwright then settles gently, dry at first, then gliding into lingering spicy notes with hints of an old leather armchair.
Ardgowan Distillery
Great Single Malt Scotch whisky requires four ingredients: fresh spring water, malted barley, yeast and, of course, time. Ardgowan Distillery is a group of Scotch Whisky enthusiasts who feel that many distilleries, often because of pressure from shareholders, are in too much of a rush to get their spirit to market. That’s why they came together to form The Ardgowan Distillery Company - an independent whisky maker with a respect for tradition, a passion for innovation, and a firm commitment to giving every drop of spirit the time that it takes to make a good whisky great.
The Ardgowan estate is the site of a natural spring which provides water of exceptional purity and sweetness. It is also close to the sea and the warming effects of the Gulf Stream. All of which makes it the perfect place to produce an exceptional Single Malt with distinctive maritime characteristics.
Whilst they await completion of their flagship state-of-the-art carbon-negative distillery and the first distillation of their own spirit in 2024, they are sourcing and laying down Malt Whisky from all across Scotland. They select the casks and carefully curate them, only bottling when ready, at a minimum of 46% ABV, natural colour and not chill-filtered.
