Ardnamurchan 10 Year Old 50% Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl

To celebrate their 10th Birthday, the team at Ardnamurchan are proud to present a delicious expression from some of their oldest casks. The unpeated spirit is matured in a combination of Bourbon Casks and Paul Launois Barriques. Showcasing all the classic Western Highland characteristics you've come to expect from Ardnamurchan malts but with a deep, honeyed sweetness and an oily finish.

"Putting the 10yr old together was a whole new chapter and this time it was the whisky that was released from lockdown. For over 2 years there has been a virtual “Do not touch” sign on just about every cask filled from 2014 to 2016 (with a few exceptions). This is part of our own preservation order to allow for longer aging of stock for future releases, but it has also meant that we haven’t been looking at the evolution of the older stock. When we started to sample the early 2014’s for the 10yr anniversary release we were genuinely amazed by the whole new set of flavours emerging. This is a proper grown-up whisky, waxy, fruity, complex and evolving, and I am unbelievably proud." - Alex Bruce, Managing Director

Tasting Notes

Colour: Honeyed Gold

Nose: The nose opens with an overtly tropical offering; replete with ripe mangoes, pineapple cubes, lots of honey. There are baked bananas, brown sugar, figs, and wine gums. With time, we go a little deeper into darker tones of crème caramel, toffee, and meringues with white chocolate.

Palate: Oh, hello there, waxiness! The theme of honey continues, backed up by linseed oil, warming spices, gingerbread, fresh pineapple, and cedar. Oily, waxy, showing great depth!

Ardnamurchan Distillery

The Ardnamurchan Distillery opened in July 2014 to begin the process of producing what has certainly become world-class single malts.

Ardnamurchan Managing Director, Alex Bruce said “When we filled the first spirit into casks, the concept of being able to disgorge those casks into bottles seemed very distant. However, we have had an incredible journey, building our 100% local team, filling the warehouses with over 10,000 casks and preparing national and international distribution. We relied on the unique local maturation climate to do the rest, and are really excited by the quality and consistency that has been reached.”

Uniquely in the whisky industry, all the power and heat requirements for the distillery come from local renewables. The river that provides the distillery's cooling water has a hydro-electricity generator and the biomass boiler is fuelled by woodchip from local forestry.
