Ardnamurchan Mezcal Cask 55% Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl - NEW
The team at Ardnamurchan are thrilled to announce their first-ever Mezcal Cask Release!
For this whisky, they took 20 bourbon barrels filled in 2017 with their 30ppm peated distillate and transferred them into ex-Mezcal barrels for the final 20 months of maturation.
The blending team are thrilled with how the traditional Ardnamurchan coastal and heathery peat smoke character has dovetailed with the saline, vegetal traits of the ex-Mezcal casks. At 7 years old, these casks really rounded into a beautiful final product. They decided this batch nosed and tasted best at a punchier bottle strength of 55% ABV.
While we wish we had a bit more to spread around, one only gets so many Mezcal casks. As such, these 20 barrels have yielded a global outturn of 4,500 bottles, and our allocation is limited, so get them while you can!
No added colour and non-chill filtered.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Green, grassy, and vegetal with an immediate Mezcal influence. As it opens up, expect crisp Granny Smith apples, green bananas, and resilient, ashy smoke.
Palate: Bright and herbaceous with hints of eucalyptus, chalky minerals, and seashore essence. A bold mix of olive brine, salty capers, and flat-leaf parsley, creating a weighty, fatty texture underpinned by an earthy backbone.
Finish: Gentle, wispy smoke lingers with a creamy, sweet aftertaste and a final touch of earthy depth.
Ardnamurchan Distillery
The Ardnamurchan Distillery opened in July 2014 to begin the process of producing what has certainly become world-class single malts.
Ardnamurchan Managing Director, Alex Bruce said “When we filled the first spirit into casks, the concept of being able to disgorge those casks into bottles seemed very distant. However, we have had an incredible journey, building our 100% local team, filling the warehouses with over 10,000 casks and preparing national and international distribution. We relied on the unique local maturation climate to do the rest, and are really excited by the quality and consistency that has been reached.”
Uniquely in the whisky industry, all the power and heat requirements for the distillery come from local renewables. The river that provides the distillery's cooling water has a hydro-electricity generator and the biomass boiler is fuelled by woodchip from local forestry.
