Lindores ‘Thiron’ 49.4% Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Thiron (pronounced 'tee-ron') is the inaugural release in a new annual series from Lindores Abbey, using their exclusive French Virgin Oak Casks hewn from the forests of the French Abbey and village of Thiron-Gardais.
Lindores Abbey was founded by monks from Thiron in 1191, and their centuries-old bond remains strong to this day. In 2018, Lindores Abbey Distillery founders Drew and Helen McKenzie Smith commissioned a number of casks to be created from the French oak trees that grow in the forests around the village of Thiron-Gardais, a unique opportunity available only to Lindores. Drew and Helen have since returned to Thiron to plant oak trees to replace the ones used.
The stunning end result of this Whisky embodies the legacy of the Tironensian monks, who laid down the foundations of Scotch Whisky.
Each sip of this Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a journey through time. The use of first-fill bourbon casks and red wine barriques combined with the French Virgin oak has yielded a whisky of unparalleled character, a true embodiment of the dedication that bridges our past with our present.

Lindores Abbey Distillery
Lindores Abbey Distillery can be found in the Spiritual Home of Scotch Whisky in Fife.
Distilling was taking place on this site at least as early as 1494, although it was most probably happening long before that. The earliest written reference to Scotch Whisky (or Aqua Vitae, as it was then known) appears in the Exchequer Roll of the same year. It mentioned a Brother John Cor, a Lindores monk, who was commissioned by King James IV to turn 8 bolls of malt into Aqua Vitae. Thought to have helped to ‘sloeth age’ and ‘abandoneth melancholy’, it was a powerful tonic that was drunk by kings and commoners alike.
Aqua Vitae was the first release from Lindores Abbey and their single malts have already delighted whisky lovers across the world.
